Shuguo Yinxiang Restaurant 蜀国印象蜀國印象·火锅 @ Sunway Velocity

Sunway Velocity is not a mall itself by now. To us who loves China hotpot, it seems like a new mini China street in KL itself that have a few shops that serve classic China Szechuan Hotpot. Around dinner time from 7pm – 9pm, you can see a queue right in front of Shuguo Yinxiang Restaurant 蜀国印象蜀國印象·火锅. Rated no.2 by me in this street as they are situated outside at the Boulavard of the mall.

If you decided to dine randomly in these few restaurant, best advise to reach before 7pm. If not most of the crowd are here for dinner and the average queue will be 90 – 120 minutes long. As diners doesnt eat very fast to clear the table for you as this is HOTPOT. Diners use their own sweet time to cook the ingredient, dip, chat and eat.

You will be given a number and their service is pretty good. They will call you to inform you that your table is ready and will only be secure for about 10 minutes.

then we decided to order China Rice wine and they do have a few selection in here. Ranging from 35% – 60% alcohol content. WE order this with 55% alcohol content. It is so good to pair with hotpot as it is not burning hot, but have sweet end to it. Quite smooth too.

Well, the soup base in Shuguo Yinxiang Restaurant  over here is milder if were to compare to Xiao Long Kan that located just further end of the street. I would prefer this shop more for the pungent taste of it. However Shugo YinXiang Restaurant is on the cheaper side. You can do bookings too.

French Japanese affair @ Prime, Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur

Prime had always been one of my favourite restaurant and recently, they have invited chef Walter Ishizuka that had worked at Lyon’s famous 3-Michelin starred restaurant owned by none other than the Master of French cuisine  Paul Bocuse. The chef whom he cited as a mentor who taught him everything he knew about cooking and even more. A mix affair that brings up a French Japanese dining experience at Prime, Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur.

Soup is pack with flavours as it is on slightly on the mild side. I prefer my bowl of soup to be more punch with porkie ingredient taste.

Ceramic Pro Nano Coating @ Setia Alam

In Kl, we certainly need wheels to move around often. On the road you can see some great ones that is still like brand new and some with the same series as ours, the colour already slowly worn out. I usually do take a good care of my ride, as I will hit on group buying site to purchase some random car polish voucher to polish twice a year. Once I click on those sites, my FB wall is filled with advertising of Ceramic Pro Nano Coating.

It was only recently that I send my car to Ceramic Pro at Setia Alam Branch for Ceramic Pro Permanent Nano-Ceramic Paint Coating treatment for Gold Package. My car is about 5 years old as with this treatment, is to enhance the look and feel of it like brand new that will be lasting for about 7 years.

Some of you might think what is Ceramic Pro? Is it another brand? In deed it is. (this will be quite technical)

It is a clear liquid nanoceramic coating that can be applied in multiple layers. After complete polymerization the solutions on the surface will transform into a permanent durable but flexible ceramic shield. It can be described as an additional clear coating with 3 times the hardness and self-cleaning properties. This special coatings are designed for automotive, marine, aviation and industrial applications with formulas that are molecularly designed for various surfaces such as paint, vinyl, polymers, glass and more.

At this stage, only the professional staff can apply the Ceramic Pro 9 coatings onto the different surfaces – body, rims, dashboard, leather seats, and remaining part of the car.

This layer of features of High Gloss finish, unmatched Super Hydrophobic Effect, Chemical Resistance, UV Resistance, Thermal Resistance and Anti-Grafitti. This puts Ceramic Pro in a category by itself, compared to sealants or waxes that degrade quickly.

raindrop

This is quite interesting as recently have been raining consistently and I was quite surprise to see the droplets of water on the roof of my car and only knew that it is from the super hydrophobic effect of the coating will cause water to bead up and roll of the surface with any dirt and grime easily. This coating also good that it offers superior protection from damaging contamination and harsh chemicals and especially if you accidentally park your car under a huge tree at 7pm where you come back 2 hours later your car got bomb!

Step 4 – Infrared Curing process

Before final stage my car underwent an infrared curing process to permanently bond the coatings to the surface of my car, ensuring that it will last at least 7 years.

With this process, it had made the surface more hard to above 9H, where our normal typical clear coat has hardness between 2H and 4H.

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
5A. Infrared Curing Treatment

The paint also won’t fade or age due to the UV protection in the Ceramic coating.

OK so exactly how does it work? This pretty amazing nano technology allows the Ceramic nanoparticles to fill the smallest pores in the paint which makes the Ceramic Pro ceramic shield shiny, smooth and extremely slick or hydrophobic. Ceramic Pro dramatically lowers the surface tension preventing environmental contaminants such as: bird droppings, bugs, dirt, tar and graffiti paint from bonding to the surface. Water easily removes dirt from the surface by encapsulating it while rolling off the surface, hence the “self-cleaning effect”.

When I reach back to the shop, could not believe that the car had just transformed. The final product is pretty impressive as I am totally satisfied. The maintenance is straight forward whereby we just need to wash our car like how we normally do. The best part of now is that we do not need to wax. As it easily last about 7 years.

Beauty In The Pot 美滋锅 @ Sky Avenue Genting Highland

Beauty In The Pot 美滋锅 at Sky Avenue Genting Highland is making a huge buzz all over the online portals that you can get. Most of the people would purposely travel up to Genting to enjoy this hotpot. Under the cold weather up there and eating hotpot is the most perfect combination.

Only then I realize that this shop is operating under Paradise Group of Restaurants, This hotpot is slightly different from others as they brand themselves as collagen hotpot, where they add in premium ingredients in it to enrich the soup.

A glimpse of the place.

Little did I know that they queue is kinda crazy. I reach at 8pm and my number I got in line is another 53 pax in line. Bare in mind that the calculation goes by every 90 minutes per session table. Therefore average waiting time is that. Hence average wait is about 2 hours with least with 50 pax in front of me.

Good note is that the front desk will give you a call when your table is ready. Hence you can stroll and walk around everywhere. But do remember to pick up your call, if not your table will be given to the next patron in line.

We pick Spicy Nourishing Malat” 滋补养身香辣锅 is a must have for me then another choice is Beauty Collagen 胶原蛋白养颜美容锅. Find that the soup are quite interesting and it is quite thick in flavour. Especially Beauty Collagen. Indeed it is thick broth and as it is cooked longer, it become thicker and saltier.

Spicy soup is not that spicy as like the one from China, but decent enough for the weather up here and good to those who cant really take spicy.

There’s also a 20% discount from 10.30pm onward, limited to food ingredients only, and excludes soup base, condiments and drinks. (only available from Monday to Thursday)

Overall, for a hotpot such as this and impress with their service. Only pity all the floor staff there as they have to bow 90 degree on each servings finish. Their back must be very strong! A place can explore up there if you are craving for hotpot. I think they are the only restaurant that have outdoor seating area.

As on the way down from Genting, I already gotten very thirsty and have to stop by at the rest area to get a bottle of water. Either it is the effect of MSG or the saltiness of it.

Expect to pay RM 100 – RM 120 per head easily and depending what you are ordering.

A guide to the best nightlife activities in Ho Chi Minh City

I have yet went to Vietnam in my travel itenary and it is definately in my list as I have heard so much good things about this country especially on their food! Not only that. Vietnam do have their DARK side! What I mean is Vietnam After Dark with a guide to the best nightlife activities in Ho Chi Minh City

Image may be NSFW.

nightlife activities in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s largest city by population. While taking up just a mere 0.6% of the country’s land area, it contains 8.34% of the country’s population and 20.2% of its GDP. This high octane city of both commerce and culture has driven Vietnam forward with an effervescent energy. The city breathes life and vitality into all who settle here, and visitors cannot help but be hauled along for the ride.

While Saigon (as it was formerly and still quite affectionately known) is amazing and bustling during the day, the night takes Ho Chi Minh City to a whole new level. Known as a city that never sleeps, Ho Chi Minh City is brimming with a myriad of pursuits and activities after the sun goes down to please just about anyone. While lively and vibrant, it can also be quaint and peaceful. All these factors contribute to Ho Chi Minh City’s uniqueness – which one truly has to experience to appreciate.

So, from live music to street dining to cultural pursuits to simply taking in the city lights, here’s a brief guide to Ho Chi Minh City after dark:

Image may be NSFW.

Live music in Ho Chi Minh City - Photo by Sam Sherratt

Ho Chi Minh City comes alive after dark with its vibrant music scene – Photo by Sam Sherratt

Ho Chi Minh City has garnered a solid reputation in recent times for its great live music scene. From smooth jazz to heavy rock and everything in between, there most likely is an establishment that caters to your music preference. Sing along, dance or just enjoy watching the show. On open mic nights you can even go up and sing!

Gigs are fairly well spread out across the city so you should never be too far from some singalong fun, and if you are staying in the popular areas of District 1 or 3, then music aficionados will certainly be spoilt for choice.

And while we’re on the topic of live music, Karaoke fans will love to know that Vietnam has taken this favourite Asian pastime to a whole new level. In Ho Chi Minh City, it’s not unusual to find grand lounges, decorated so lavishly as if they were expecting royalty! Rooms can be booked for as low as RM130.00 per group, which includes drinks, finger food and hours of singing your heart out to Backstreet Boys, Michael Learns to Rock, Guns ‘n’ Roses or just about any artist that tickles your fancy. The playlists are endless.

A bit of culture at Ben Thanh Market

A bit of culture at Ben Thanh Market and Saigon Opera House

For a glimpse of Vietnamese culture, head on down to Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1. This is certainly a great place to buy local handicrafts, branded goods, Vietnamese art and other souvenirs. Although busiest during the day, night time brings many food vendors onto the streets serving a wide variety of seafood, as well as many fashion stalls and souvenir type stalls. The night market is setup alongside the market on Phan Boi Chau Street and becomes a pedestrian zone from 7pm to 11pm so you can browse at your leisure. Be prepared to haggle as prices may start a little high – but that being said, it is not hard to find a good bargain here.

Here, you’ll also find eating stalls inside the market where you can get a taste of hawker-style Vietnamese cuisine or simply cool off with a cold drink when the bargaining becomes too much. When night falls, restaurants around the perimeter of the market open their doors creating a vibrant streetside scene filling the air with the scents of wok-fried noodles, barbecued fish and meats. One of Saigon’s oldest landmarks, Ben Thanh offers a great atmosphere that is absolutely authentically Vietnamese.

Meanwhile, for a different side of culture, a visit to Saigon Opera House is a must, especially when the sun goes down. Also known as Municipal Theater, the Saigon Opera House is a beautiful colonial building in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City with a stunning facade of ornate winged statues and curved window frames. Inside, the culturally inclined are able to witness the best of the fine arts that visit Vietnam seasonally, and although there is no consistent performances, events are common. Performances range from ballet and musical concerts to Vietnamese traditional dances and live theatre. Performances are advertised around the building and information can be found in the state-operated tourist information centre close by.

City lights in Ho Chi Minh City

Venture into the city at night for a glimpse of Ho Chi Minh City’s dazzling city lights

If architecture and night scenery is your thing, then Ho Chi Minh City is definitely a city for you to explore. Walking around Ho Chi Minh City is the best way to get around, especially at night. If you head over to the city center, around Nguyen Hue Boulevard, you will have easy access to spectacular attractions such as the City Hall, Notre Dame Cathedral, Post Office and Opera House. All these buildings are so beautiful at night when the flood lights come on. Wandering through the maze of alleyways is also fun.

For a bird’s eye view of the city lights, visit Bitexco Financial Tower – the high-rise building in Saigon with a total of 68 stories – enabling guests to take exquisite shots of the city from above. Inside the tower, the Saigon Sky Deck provides visitors with a spectacular panoramic view of the bewitching cityscape at the height of 178 metres. The building also houses a complex which comprises of a shopping center, cinemas, restaurants, and coffee shops.

Enjoy flying with Vietjet

If you like what you’re reading, then Ho Chi Minh City is definitely a place for your next holiday – and getting there is easy too. While Vietnam in general is easily accessible via a host of airlines, Vietjet operates daily flights direct from Kuala Lumpur to Ho Chi Minh City.

As they say, getting there is half the fun and nobody makes this adage truer than Vietjet. Vietnam’s new-age budget airline, which is known for its “fun and quirky” offering and service at affordable rates, is fast winning over travellers to become one of the region’s most favourite airlines.

So there you have it, a quick guide to Ho Chi Minh City at night – so for all night owls out there, this could very much be the destination for you!

While there are only 3 of us, it seems again that we over order. I was there to eat as the food is pretty much order by my friend. Soup base: Superior Pork Bone Soup and to my surprise it is claypot steamboat which is not your typical version that is with the metal pot.

This is Foo Hing’s signature Macau style Portuguese egg tarts @ RM2.50 per piece. Look at the texture and crust at the side that you can still see layers of crips. Soft and fragrant in the middle and it is worth to take away. A dessert must have after your dim sum – Recommended!

Who does not love Korean food? I can have it like my daily dinner meal too. Recently did an arrangement of birthday dinner with my friend over here through a recommendation from my friend. Jinjin Soora Korean Restaurant located in Plaza Mont Kiara is indeed a hidden gem in this area.

Did order their Saeu TwiGim  @ RM 16 that comes with about 8-10 pcs of mini fried Gyoza version. Not too bad as the skin is pan fried to crispy. (sorry dont have picture for this)

a place which is not easy to find as I always thought it is a back door at the side alley or behind and I was wrong. The shop concept is a misleading yet love it as it feels like a sundry shop with huge collection of toys. The entrance is just right next to Merchant Lane.

It is interesting that upon odering sake, the staff will tell you on the sake description and how it is best to enjoy. We tried both as recommended by the staff. Starting off with cold sake – Abekameji Junmai Daiginjo, 500ml @ RM400 which is one of the best seller. Brewed using 100% Kame no O Sake rice. .Light and mellow aroma with medium body.

Next is the hot sake Fusozuru Junmai. Was told hot is the better option as can be enjoyed cold too but the taste is much better in hot. It have slightly tangy aftertaste. RM 55 per Medium Tokkuri and RM240 per bottle of 720ml.

Buffet here is constantly fully book. It is highly advise to make your reservations early. They do have walk in too, but will be seated at bar area instead of proper dining tables.

Ah Yap Hokkien Mee @ Sentul

I still remember till today that my first Hokkien Mee in KL was a shocking moment for me with a twist and quarrel with the hawker worker. Hokkien mee in KL is very different from the ones in Penang. Ah Yap Hokkien Mee in Sentul was introduce by a friend that I should give here a try.
